What is orthodontics treatment?
Braces and Invisalign® are orthodontics treatments that shift crooked teeth into an ideal alignment, typically over a period of 6-24 months.
Braces
Braces consist of metal brackets and wires that move misaligned or crooked teeth into a more desirable position.
Invisalign
The Invisalign system includes a series of clear aligners that also move your teeth into a desirable position. It consists of a series of clear plastic aligners you wear over your teeth.
What are the benefits of braces?
The advantages of traditional braces and Invisalign include:
- Straighter teeth
- Improved bite
- Realignment
- Optimal comfort
- Reduced damage
- Clearer speech
- Improved eating habits
- Easier teeth cleaning
- Beautiful smile
Braces and Invisalign both offer more self-confidence and the best quality of life possible, reducing your risk of complications.
Are braces right for me?
Nearly half of people worldwide would benefit from orthodontic treatment. You might be a candidate for braces or Invisalign if you have one or more of the following:
- Underbite
- Overbite
- Crossbite
- Crooked teeth
- Protruding teeth
- Deep bite
- Tooth gaps
The Mamkin Dentistry Aesthetic & Restorative Center specialists determine which treatment is best after discussing your dental history, symptoms, and goals. They examine your teeth and may take dental X-rays before personalizing a treatment plan.
What happens when getting braces?
When receiving braces, your provider digitally scans your teeth. They bond metal brackets to your teeth and attach them using wires. Periodically, your provider tightens the wires to gradually shift your teeth into a more desirable position.
If you’re a candidate for Invisalign, you simply wear clear aligners over your teeth all day and at night, with the exception of when you’re eating and brushing or flossing your teeth. Every week or two, as directed by your dentist, you switch to the next set of aligners in your series.
What can I expect afterward?
When your teeth reach an ideal position, your dentist removes the braces. You might wear a removable or permanent retainer to keep them in their new position. Call the Mamkin Dentistry Aesthetic & Restorative Center office anytime with questions.
